Currency Converter
Checking prices in another currency gets confusing fast, especially when the symbols look familiar. Enter an amount, pick the two currencies, and the converter shows an estimate using the latest reference rate it can retrieve. Use it for a quick comparison; your bank or payment service may give you a different final amount.
How to use the converter
- 1Enter the amount you want to convert. Zero is allowed, but negative amounts are not.
- 2Choose the currency the amount is currently in, such as USD or EUR.
- 3Choose the currency you want to convert into. The result updates after a short pause while you type.
- 4Check the reference-rate date shown with the result. Use the invert control to swap the currencies and compare the reverse direction.
When it comes in handy
Estimate what a hotel, meal, or ticket costs in your home currency before you go.
Get a quick comparison when a shop lists prices in another currency.
See a reference conversion before checking the transfer provider's fees and offered rate.
Convert salary, tuition, or invoice amounts for an initial comparison.
The calculation
Converted amount = entered amount × exchange rateThe rate is the number of target-currency units for one unit of the starting currency. For example, if 1 unit converts to 0.92 units, then 100 converts to 92 before any provider fees. The result uses a reference rate returned for that currency pair; it doesn't include a card fee, cash-exchange spread, or transfer charge.
A note about rate timing
This browser tool requests reference rates from Frankfurter's public currency service, which blends daily rates from central banks and official sources by default. Rates are not refreshed tick by tick, and some currencies or dates may not be available. If the service can't return a rate, wait a little and try again. For an actual purchase, transfer, or accounting entry, use the rate and fees quoted by your provider.
You can read about the source and its update model in the Frankfurter API documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Troy Ounce and a Standard Ounce?
A "standard" (avoirdupois) ounce commonly used in the kitchen weighs exactly 28.3495 grams. Precious metals, however, are measured in Troy Ounces, which weigh 31.1035 grams. If you weigh gold on a standard kitchen scale, you must use our calculator's "Gram" input, or you will miscalculate its value.
What does "Karat" (k) mean in gold?
Karat measures the purity of gold on a scale of 1 to 24. 24k gold is 99.9% pure. Because pure gold is very soft, jewelry is often mixed with other metals (like copper or silver) to increase durability. 18k gold is 18 parts gold, 6 parts alloy (75% pure). 14k gold is 58.3% pure.
Will a jeweler pay me the exact "Spot Price"?
No. The Spot Price is the raw market value of the metal. If you are selling scrap jewelry to a dealer or pawn shop, they will typically pay you below the spot price (often 70% to 80%) to cover their refining costs and profit margins. Our calculator shows the absolute intrinsic value to help you negotiate a fair price.
