Tool guide
About Dead Pixel Tester
Show solid colors and patterns to help visually inspect a screen for pixels that look stuck, dark, or discolored. The tool does not automatically detect or repair display defects.
How to use this tool
- 1Set the screen brightness to a comfortable level and start the tester.
- 2View each solid color and pattern across the panel, checking the full display for spots that do not match.
- 3Exit the pattern and compare any suspected defect with the manufacturer's pixel policy.
How the tool works
The page presents uniform colors and patterns on the screen, often with controls to change the current display. Your eyes identify irregular pixels; the browser does not read pixel hardware or analyze the panel.
Worked real-world example
A bright dot against a black screen may be easier to notice than it is against a white screen, so inspect more than one color.
Common scenarios and use cases
Check a new or existing screen for visible pixel differences in a controlled viewing condition.
Important details and limitations
Dust, reflections, image scaling, and panel subpixel behavior can look like a defect. Do not press hard on the display. Manufacturer policies define acceptable pixel counts and repair options.
Check the output unit as well as the number. If the result will be reused in another calculation, retain full precision where possible and round only at the end. For measurements governed by a technical specification, use the standard and tolerance required by that document.

Why inspect several colors?
A pixel can appear different depending on the color shown.
Can the tester repair a pixel?
