About Geolocation Tester
Ask the browser for a location estimate and display coordinates and accuracy if permission is granted. Location access is sensitive, so only use the page when you understand the permission prompt and the device being checked.
How to use this tool
- 1Choose Get My Location.
- 2Review the browser permission prompt and allow access only if you want to share the device location with this page.
- 3Read the returned coordinates and accuracy radius, then stop or close the page when done.
How the tool works
The page calls the browser Geolocation API and displays the returned latitude, longitude, reported accuracy, and altitude when available. Location can come from GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular networks, or other device methods; this tool does not guarantee a precise fix.
Worked real-world example
An accuracy value of ±100 m means the provider estimates the position within roughly that radius, not at an exact point.
Common scenarios and use cases
Check whether location permission works or copy coordinates for a general map reference.
Important details and limitations
Location may be inaccurate indoors or unavailable on desktop. The browser may expose sensitive coordinates; do not grant permission on a device you do not trust. Altitude is often absent or unreliable.
Check the output unit as well as the number. If the result will be reused in another calculation, retain full precision where possible and round only at the end. For measurements governed by a technical specification, use the standard and tolerance required by that document.
Frequently asked questions
Does the page get my exact address?
It shows coordinates from the browser; accuracy depends on the device and provider.
Why is altitude missing?
Many location providers do not return altitude.
Are coordinates sent to a server?
The page displays them locally unless you choose to open an external map link.
