About Reaction Time Test

Measure the time between a visual cue and your click in the browser. The result includes the display and input path as well as human response, so it is a casual benchmark rather than a clinical assessment.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Start a round and wait for the signal to change.
  2. 2Click only after the cue appears; an early click is recorded as a false start.
  3. 3Complete the rounds and review the measured time and average.

How the tool works

The page records a high-resolution browser timestamp when the cue appears and subtracts it from the timestamp at the click. It averages multiple rounds when available. Display refresh, input hardware, browser scheduling, and attention influence the value.

Worked real-world example

If the cue timestamp is 500 ms before the click event, the measured response is about 500 ms, subject to event and display delay.

Common scenarios and use cases

Compare your own results across similar conditions or use a simple reaction game.

Important details and limitations

This does not diagnose attention, neurological function, or driving fitness. A small number of trials can vary considerably; do not use the score to decide whether a person is safe to operate equipment.

Check the output unit as well as the number. If the result will be reused in another calculation, retain full precision where possible and round only at the end. For measurements governed by a technical specification, use the standard and tolerance required by that document.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a medical test?

No. It is an informal browser activity.

Why do results vary between devices?

Screen refresh and input latency add to the measured interval.

Can I use it to prove driving readiness?

No. It is not a validated safety assessment.
