Frequency Generator
Generate specific audio frequencies. Set the audio options to generate, record, measure, or process sound in your browser.

About Frequency Generator
Generate a continuous tone at a selected frequency using the browser's Web Audio API. Listen at a comfortable volume and stop the tone when finished, since high or loud sound can cause discomfort or hearing harm.
How to use this tool
- 1Enter or select a frequency within the control range.
- 2Start the tone and adjust your device volume before listening closely.
- 3Stop playback before leaving the page or changing audio output.
How the tool works
The page creates an audio oscillator in an AudioContext and sets its frequency in hertz. The sound is rendered through the device's audio path; speaker response and browser sample rate limit what is produced.
Worked real-world example
A 440 Hz setting produces the standard A4 reference pitch when the playback system reproduces it accurately.
Common scenarios and use cases
Check an audio path, explore pitch, or provide a simple signal for an educational demonstration.
Important details and limitations
The generated frequency is not calibrated sound pressure. Avoid high volume and long exposure, and do not use tones to test hearing or equipment safety without appropriate methods.
Check the output unit as well as the number. If the result will be reused in another calculation, retain full precision where possible and round only at the end. For measurements governed by a technical specification, use the standard and tolerance required by that document.
Frequently asked questions
Can this produce ultrasound?
Device and browser limits make high-frequency output unreliable or inaudible.
Why do I hear no tone?
Check browser audio permission, output selection, volume, and supported frequency range.
Is pitch perfectly accurate?
The oscillator is frequency-based, but hardware and playback conditions affect the result.
