Convert JPG, PNG, and WebP Without Guessing
A file can look like the right image and still be rejected if its encoded format is not accepted. This converter creates JPG, PNG, or WebP output, offers a quality control for lossy formats, and displays the preview, dimensions, and file size. It keeps the source pixel dimensions; conversion does not resize or repair the picture.
How to use this tool
- 1Select an image that the browser can decode and confirm its source dimensions and format.
- 2Choose JPG/JPEG, PNG, or WebP as the output. For JPG or WebP, set quality according to the balance you need between appearance and file size.
- 3Convert and compare the result with the source. Check transparent regions, small text, edges, dimensions, and actual output size.
- 4Download and verify the exported file before sending it to a service with specific format requirements.
What conversion changes
The browser decodes the selected image and re-encodes its pixels in the chosen output format. JPG and WebP quality settings can discard visual detail; PNG preserves pixel values but can create larger files for photographs. JPG has no alpha transparency, so transparent pixels are composited against white. Conversion retains the source width and height.
A practical example
A transparent PNG logo converted to JPG keeps its visible shape but replaces transparent areas with white. Converting that JPG back to PNG does not restore transparency or details already lost during JPG encoding.
A reliable workflow
Pick a format based on the destination and image content, not just file extension. Use PNG for transparency or crisp line art, JPG for broadly compatible photographs, and WebP where the receiving system accepts it. If you need a new size or crop, do that separately and review the dimensions afterward.
Important limits and checks
- Changing formats cannot recover details missing from a compressed source.
- The output may be larger than the input, especially when a photo is encoded as PNG.
- HEIC and camera RAW decoding depends on browser support; not every device can open those files here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert JPG to PNG?
Choose the JPG, select PNG, convert, then download. The output keeps its dimensions but cannot recover information removed by prior JPG compression.
Will PNG-to-JPG preserve transparency?
No. JPG has no transparent pixel channel; transparent areas are filled with white.
Can I reduce the file size while converting?
For JPG and WebP, you can lower quality and compare the result. PNG may be larger, and format conversion alone does not guarantee a smaller file.
Does it resize the image?
No. The converter preserves source pixel width and height. Use a resizer or cropper for dimensions.
Why will my HEIC file not open?
The browser may not support decoding that HEIC variant. Export a compatible image format in a photo application first.
