Add a Text Watermark to an Image
A visible text watermark can label a draft, identify an image version, or make attribution more noticeable. This tool lets you enter a short message, choose one of five positions, adjust opacity, preview the result, and download a PNG. The watermark is drawn into the image pixels rather than saved as a separate editable layer.
How to use this tool
- 1Choose the image you want to mark. Keep an untouched copy so you can create a different placement or opacity later.
- 2Enter concise watermark text, select a position, and adjust opacity. The available positions are the four corners and the center.
- 3Inspect the preview at its full size. Check that the mark is readable without hiding a face, product detail, label, or other important part of the image.
- 4Download the PNG and open it separately to confirm the text position and contrast before sharing.
How the watermark is rendered
The browser draws the source image to a canvas, applies the selected opacity, then paints the watermark text in white with a dark outline for contrast. Position choices are placed near the corresponding image edge or center. The exported PNG is a flattened raster image, so the source and text cannot be repositioned independently afterward.
A practical example
For a product image, a short store name in a lower corner at moderate opacity may identify a preview while leaving most of the product visible. A centered watermark is harder to crop out, but it can obscure the subject more strongly.
A reliable workflow
Use the smallest text that still communicates the intended attribution or status. Preview the image at the size where it will be viewed, because a watermark that looks clear on a large screen may become unreadable as a small thumbnail. For ownership, combine visible marks with appropriate licensing and record-keeping; a watermark alone does not establish rights.
Important limits and checks
- A watermark can be cropped, covered, or removed; it is not encryption or copy protection.
- The tool supports text, not a separate logo-image watermark. Keep the original if you need to make a logo version elsewhere.
- Avoid covering required product details or evidence. The export is a new PNG and may differ in file size from the source.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move the watermark anywhere?
Choose top-left, top-right, center, bottom-left, or bottom-right. Free dragging is not provided.
Can I change it after export?
The downloaded PNG is flattened. Reopen the untouched original and export again with the new settings.
Does lower opacity make it more secure?
No. Opacity changes visibility only and does not prevent editing or removal.
Why use an outline?
The contrasting stroke can help white text remain visible over both light and dark areas, though busy images may still reduce readability.
Can I watermark a batch of images?
This tool processes the selected image for one export at a time.
