About Remove Spaces from Text

The Remove Spaces tool removes spaces from entered text according to its built-in transformation. It can help prepare compact strings or clean accidental spacing, but removing every space from natural language makes sentences difficult to read, so check the output before using it.

The Remove Spaces tool offers four different whitespace operations, so it can do more than delete every gap between words. You can collapse repeated spacing, trim each line, turn the text into a single line, or remove all whitespace. Select the mode that matches the job: the strongest cleanup can also remove meaningful paragraph breaks and make prose hard to read.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Paste the text you want to change into the input box.
  2. 2Run the removal action and inspect the result, paying attention to word boundaries, line breaks, and punctuation.
  3. 3Copy the cleaned string only after confirming the destination expects spaces to be removed.

Main features explained

01Extra Spaces

This mode reduces repeated spaces and tabs within each line to a single ordinary space, trims each line, and reduces runs of three or more line breaks to two. Existing single line breaks remain, so the basic list shape is retained.

02Trim Lines

This mode reduces horizontal whitespace within each line and trims the beginning and end of each line. It keeps line breaks between entries, which can clean copied lists without merging them together.

03Single Line

This mode collapses horizontal whitespace and multiple line breaks into spaces, keeps at most a single blank line where there were larger gaps, then trims the outer edges. It is intended to reduce layout breaks, not to preserve a structured outline.

04All Whitespace

This mode removes every character matched by JavaScript's whitespace rule, including spaces, tabs, and line breaks. It can be useful for compact tokens, but it joins words and lines directly together.

How it works

The tool processes the input as text and removes matching space characters as defined by its implementation. This may affect spaces between words as well as repeated spaces. It does not understand whether a space is required by a programming language, identifier, or natural-language sentence.

A quick example

The phrase `red blue` can become `redblue` when the space is removed. That may be useful for a compact identifier but changes how a reader sees the two words.

Worked examples

Collapse repeated spaces

Before

A quick test

After

A quick test

Extra Spaces reduces a run of spaces or tabs to one space between words.

Remove all whitespace

Before

red blue
 green

After

redbluegreen

All Whitespace also removes the line break. This may be right for a compact token but changes readable text.

When it is useful

Prepare input for a system that forbids spaces, remove unwanted gaps from a copied string, or test text behavior in a simple format.

Cleaning copied prose

Use Extra Spaces when a paragraph has uneven gaps from copying a document. It keeps normal line breaks while removing repeated horizontal spaces.

Tidying a list or pasted column

Choose Trim Lines when each item should remain on its own line, but copied indentation and trailing spaces are distracting.

Making a paragraph flow as one block

Use Single Line when hard line wraps from a PDF or email should become spaces. Review carefully because intentional paragraph and list structure may be flattened.

Preparing a compact value

Use All Whitespace only when the destination explicitly expects no whitespace, such as a compact test string. It is usually not appropriate for natural-language writing.

Tips for a better result

  • Pick the gentlest mode that solves the problem. Extra Spaces is often enough when words should stay readable.
  • Use Trim Lines for line-based data where each row must stay separate.
  • Keep a source copy before choosing Single Line or All Whitespace; those modes can remove structure that is hard to reconstruct.
  • Do not run All Whitespace on source code, poetry, tables, or ordinary sentences unless you understand how the destination handles the result.
  • If an unusual Unicode space remains, the selected operation may not treat it the way you expect. Inspect the output in its destination as well.

Technical details and limits

The tool may not remove every Unicode whitespace character unless specifically included in its rule. Removing spaces from code can change syntax or meaning. Keep a source copy and validate the result in its target context.

The result depends on the text and options you provide. Keep a copy of the original when formatting matters, and review the output before using it in a document, site, or application. This guide describes the tool's behavior; it does not replace proofreading or checking a platform's own requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Does it remove tabs and line breaks too?

Behavior depends on the implementation; inspect the output for those characters before relying on it.

Can I remove only extra repeated spaces?

This tool removes matching spaces broadly; use a formatter or editor with a collapse-spaces option if you need more control.

Will it preserve readable sentences?

Removing spaces can join words together, so the result is not usually suitable as normal prose.

Which option removes only extra repeated spaces?

Extra Spaces collapses repeated horizontal whitespace while preserving line breaks and reducing very large blank gaps.

Does Trim Lines remove line breaks?

No. It tidies each line and keeps the line structure.

What does Single Line do to paragraphs?

It collapses line wrapping and whitespace into a more continuous block. Check the result because paragraph boundaries can be changed.

Does All Whitespace remove tabs and new lines?

Yes. It removes whitespace characters matched by the tool's JavaScript whitespace expression, so words and rows can run together.

Can this fix text copied from a PDF?

Extra Spaces or Single Line may help, depending on whether the PDF inserted spaces or hard line breaks. Review paragraph boundaries after conversion.

Will it preserve indentation in code?

No. These operations are designed for text cleanup and can change code indentation or syntax. Use a code-aware formatter for source code.
