Crop an Image to Keep the Part You Need

Cropping removes pixels around a selected area so the exported image focuses on a subject, fits a composition, or omits unwanted borders. This cropper provides a movable rectangle with resize handles, numeric pixel controls, and a full-image reset. It exports the selected pixels as a PNG.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Choose an image and let the preview load. The initial crop covers most of the source so you can adjust it rather than starting with a tiny selection.
  2. 2Drag inside the selection to move it. Drag an edge or corner to resize; use Left, Top, Width, and Height fields when you need specific source-pixel coordinates.
  3. 3Check the final framing and dimensions, then select Crop and Download. Open the PNG to confirm that the kept area and edges are correct.

How a pixel crop works

The crop rectangle is measured in source-image pixels. Pointer movement on the scaled preview is converted back to the image's natural dimensions, and the browser draws that rectangular portion onto a canvas at the selected width and height. The crop does not stretch the pixels or add missing content. Areas outside the selection are discarded from the exported copy.

A practical example

A 1600 × 1200 source cropped to a 900 × 900 square exports a 900 × 900 image. The subject appears larger in the composition because the surrounding area was removed; no new detail is created.

A reliable workflow

Use a crop when composition or aspect ratio matters: center a product, remove an empty edge, or prepare a square thumbnail. If a website requires an exact output size while preserving more of the scene, crop carefully first and then resize. Keep the original so you can revise the selection later.

Important limits and checks

  • Cropping permanently excludes the removed area from this exported image; the PNG is not an editable crop project.
  • A very small crop may look soft if enlarged later. Start from the highest-resolution original available.
  • Transparent source pixels and color appearance can vary with browser decoding and canvas export. Inspect the downloaded PNG against its intended background.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter an exact crop rectangle?

Yes. Set Left, Top, Width, and Height in pixels, keeping the rectangle inside the source image.

Does the cropper preserve aspect ratio?

The crop box can be resized freely. Keep width and height in the ratio you need, or use a dedicated aspect-ratio resize workflow if the destination has strict dimensions.

What file does it download?

It exports the selected rectangle as PNG.

Can I undo the crop after downloading?

The exported file does not contain the discarded pixels. Return to the original image and create another crop.

Does cropping make an image higher resolution?

No. It removes surrounding pixels; it does not add source detail.
