Check Image Size, Dimensions, and Format Before Uploading

An upload can fail because the image is too large, too small in pixels, or saved in a format the destination does not accept. The checker reads one local image and compares its file size, pixel dimensions, and MIME type with the requirements you enter. It cannot read the rules from another website automatically.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Read the destination's requirements and note the maximum file size, minimum and maximum width and height, and allowed formats.
  2. 2Choose the image. The browser reads its file size, type, and decoded pixel dimensions.
  3. 3Enter the stated limits. Use 0 when no limit is given, and select only the formats that the destination accepts.
  4. 4Review each pass or fail result separately. Change the file with an appropriate tool, then check the downloaded copy again.

What the checker compares

File size is compared with the entered maximum in decimal KB, where 1 KB equals 1,000 bytes. Pixel checks compare the decoded image width and height against the entered minimum and maximum values. Format checks compare the file's MIME type with the formats selected in the form. Each result reflects only those entered rules.

A practical example

If an application allows JPG or PNG under 200 KB and requires at least 600 × 600 pixels, a 700 × 700 PNG at 350 KB passes the minimum dimensions and format checks but fails the size check. It still needs a smaller export, and the final file should be checked again.

A reliable workflow

Keep the receiving form's error message nearby while checking. If size fails, use the image compressor; if dimensions fail, resize or crop; if format fails, convert only to a type the form accepts. Some destinations also check aspect ratio, background, color mode, image content, or metadata, none of which this checker evaluates.

Important limits and checks

  • A pass does not guarantee acceptance: the remote form may apply additional constraints or interpret a stated size differently.
  • The tool does not inspect whether the image depicts the right subject, background, or document-photo composition.
  • For files close to a boundary, compare exact byte and pixel values with the destination's own instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Does the checker find requirements automatically?

No. Enter the size, dimensions, and accepted formats from the destination's instructions.

What does 0 mean in a limit field?

A zero value means no limit is applied for that field.

Why can an image pass here but still be rejected?

The destination may check aspect ratio, content, color mode, file metadata, or another rule not included in this report.

Can I check both minimum and maximum dimensions?

Yes. Enter the minimum and maximum width and height in pixels; leave unspecified limits at 0.

Is my photo uploaded for checking?

No. The browser reads the selected file locally for this check. You decide separately whether to submit it to another site.
