Create Pixel Art on a Resizable Grid
A pixel-art canvas is made from a limited grid of colored cells. This maker supports square grids from 8 × 8 through 128 × 128, a built-in palette, custom six-digit hex colors, pointer drawing, and PNG export. It is a lightweight single-canvas editor rather than a layer-based animation or sprite-management program.
How to use this tool
- 1Choose a grid size that fits the detail you want. Smaller grids are easier to read as icons; larger grids allow finer shapes.
- 2Select a color from the palette or enter a valid hex color. Paint cells directly on the canvas; drag to color neighboring cells.
- 3Change colors or grid size as needed. Inspect the whole design at its intended display size, then download the PNG.
Grid size and pixel rendering
The tool stores a color for each cell in a square grid and redraws the cells on a canvas preview. Changing grid size resamples the existing artwork, so details may merge or become uneven when moving between resolutions. The preview uses a fixed canvas area; the downloaded image is a raster PNG, not a vector file.
A practical example
An 8 × 8 grid has 64 cells and works for a very simple symbol. A 32 × 32 grid has 1,024 cells and supports more detail, but the extra resolution also makes it easier to add unnecessary noise. Test a design at its final size before increasing the grid.
A reliable workflow
Start with a small silhouette and a few colors, then add details that remain visible at the target size. Use repeated color blocks to create consistent shading and leave enough contrast between adjacent forms. Save an export before changing grid dimensions if the current drawing is important.
Important limits and checks
- This editor does not provide layers, animation frames, selection tools, or a full undo history.
- Changing grid resolution resamples the drawing and can alter cell details. Export a checkpoint first.
- Canvas exports are raster images. Check the PNG at the size and background where it will be used.
Frequently asked questions
Which grid sizes are available?
Square sizes range from 8 × 8 to 128 × 128, with several presets between them.
Can I add a custom color?
Yes. Enter a valid six-digit hexadecimal color such as #2A7FDB, then use it on the canvas.
Will changing the grid erase my drawing?
The existing pixels are resampled into the new grid, which can change detail. Export a copy before changing the size.
Can I create an animated sprite?
No. The tool exports a single PNG canvas and does not manage animation frames.
What format does it download?
The drawing is exported as PNG.
